Fr. Simon Gaine's book, now out in paperback.
Blackfriars Hall welcomes the new Dominican Jubilee Scholar, John Shinkwin. John begins a two-year second BA in Theology and Oriental Studies after working first as a translator and then as a teacher in London. A Classicist by background, he won a Craven Scholarship while at Merton College, Oxford, before following the Catholic Parliamentary Internship scheme as research intern for Lord Touhig, then MP for Islwyn.
John writes: ‘It is a privilege and a blessing to be awarded the Dominican Jubilee Scholarship, and to be enabled by the generosity of the Order and its benefactors to dedicate the coming years to the study of Christianity and Islam. I hope to contribute the deepened understanding gained through study in the praying community of Blackfriars to the wider life of the Church or to the development of public policy once the course is complete. I am hugely excited by the challenges ahead and will be grateful for prayers as I return to the rigours of the Oxford tutorial system!’
A special graduation ceremony on Saturday that included the Regent, Fr Simon Gaine.
