SUMMARY:Human Dignity and Mother Earth - Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Human Dignity and Mother Earth: Historic and Contemporary Sources in Conversation for a Socio-Ecological Ethic\nThe seminar opens with each panellist giving a short reflection on the confluence of respect for the human person and care for the larger natural world. With the aid of an expert moderator\, Professor Celia Deane-Drummond\, they enter into conversation with each other\, and subsequently the audience\, with a goal of articulating points of synthesis and divergence that can inform a robust socio-ecological ethic. \nPanelLists\nDr Christopher Hrynkow is an associate professor in Religion and Culture at St Thomas More College\, University of Saskatchewan. There\, he teaches courses in Religious Studies\, Catholic Studies\, Peace Studies\, and Critical Perspectives on Social Justice and the Common Good. He is also serving as the founding director of the Centre for Faith\, Justice\, and Reason at the college and is Department Head and Undergraduate Chair of Religion and Culture for the University of Saskatchewan. \nDr Jack Cunningham is the Reader in Ecclesiastical History at Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and he is director of the Robert Grosseteste Study Centre. Previous publications have included two edited volumes on Robert Grosseteste: Robert Grosseteste: his thought and its Impact. Toronto: Pontifical Institute of Medieval Studies\, 2012. And with Mark Hocknull\, Robert Grosseteste and the pursuit of Religious and Scientific Learning in the Middle Ages. Switzerland\, 2016. Jack is a pracitising Catholic and a campaigning environmental. \nRespondent\nProfessor Celia Deane-Drummond is Director of the Laudato Si’ Research Institute and Senior Research Fellow\, Campion Hall\, University of Oxford. She is also visiting Professor in Theology and Science at the University of Durham\, UK and was formerly Professor of Theology at the University of Notre Dame\, USA. She holds two doctorates\, one in theology and one in plant physiology.\nShe is co-editor of the international journal Philosophy\, Theology and the Sciences and was Chair of the European Forum for the Study of Religion and Environment from 2011-2018. She has published numerous books and articles and lectured widely nationally and internationally.
