Advanced Aquinas Reading Class
Reports on Previous Years’ Activities
The Advanced Aquinas Reading Class was established by Fr Vivian Boland when he was Director of the Institute, and since his call to Rome to be Socius to the Master of the Order it has been run every Michaelmas Term by Fr Peter Hunter.
The class is aimed at students of theology, philosophy and medieval studies, in their final year of undergraduate studies and in their first year of graduate studies, and others who have some familiarity with St Thomas’ thought, but want to gain skill in studying texts of different genres and from different stages of his career.
Until 2017, the following texts have been covered:
In Boethii de Trinitate 5, 1 and 6, 1
In I Sententiarum d 2, q 1, a 3
Summa contra Gentiles IV, 15-23
Summa Theologiae I, 84, 4-5
Summa Theologiae I-II, 106-107
Quaestiones Disputatae de Malo q 6
Super Evangelium S Ioannis lectura, prologus and caput 1, lectio 1
De unitate intellectus contra Averroistas
The selection of texts has been slightly altered for 2018.
