First-intake Alumna returns to Blackfriars Hall

2nd August 2023

Blackfriars was delighted to receive a visit this week from Delia Gallagher (1994 matriculation).

Delia was among the first contingent of students to study at Blackfriars Hall after its establishment as a Permanent Private Hall (PPH) of the University of Oxford in 1994, and this was her first return visit to Oxford since then. Prior to this, Delia attended Blackfriars (in its pre-Hall days) as a visiting student from the University of San Francisco. She is pictured here in the students’ common room, next to the photo of her younger self.

Delia now lives with her husband and children in Rome, and until recently served as CNN’s Vatican Correspondent, a role she held for twenty years. She continues as a journalist and writer and has a strong interest in Catholic education. We enjoyed speaking with Delia about what has changed about Oxford and Blackfriars, and what has stayed the same, and reminisced about the Dominicans who were at Blackfriars in the 1990s, many of whom she has since seen in Rome.
