Since 1985, Bishop Anthony has been a member of Order of Preachers (Dominicans), a religious congregation dedicated to preaching the Catholic faith in the context of a life of study, prayer and community.
After studying for the priesthood and researching immigration and refugee issues in Australia, he completed a doctorate in Bioethics at the University of Oxford, before going on to lecture at the Australian Catholic University.
From 2000 to 2003 Bishop Anthony served as a Foundation Director of the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and the Family in Melbourne, and he remains Professor of Moral Theology and Bioethics in the Institute.
