Blackfriars Hall’s Prize-Winning Students
10th December 2024
We at Blackfriars Hall are extremely proud of the academic successes of all our community, and we are delighted to announce that two of our students won dissertation prizes in 2024.
Alexander Christensen achieved a Distinction for his MPhil in Greek and/or Latin Languages and Literature, and was awarded the Gaisford Graduate Dissertation Prize 2024 for his thesis. Alexander is now studying for a PhD in Classical Studies at Boston University, and has fond memories of his time at the Hall:
‘My thought will always have been deeply enriched by the example of generous scholarship and selfless sacrifice set by the brothers and students at Blackfriars, as well as the long hours I spent reading in the Hall’s library, accompanied by the day’s hymns drifting up from the chapel. I love Blackfriars and will always be grateful for the community that welcomed me for my brief stay’.
Eva Kristinova won the Best Dissertation prize for the MSc in Global Governance and Diplomacy 2024. She is currently a Silk Road scholar, pursuing research at Renmin University of China and she also heads the Central Asia and Caucasus research programme at the UK-based London Politica think tank. Eva says of Blackfriars,
‘Blackfriars is unlike any other place in Oxford. The close personal relationships that individuals are able to form, and its familial atmosphere create a wonderful environment for scholars of all disciplines to thrive. The staff and leadership at Blackfriars are also able to provide personalised attention to the needs and goals of their students. If I had to choose again, Blackfriars would be my first choice every time!’
We congratulate Alexander and Eva on their excellent achievements and wish them every success for their future studies.
