Dr Cynthia Liu
Junior Research Fellow
Cynthia Liu (DPhil, Oxon) researches the way Greco-Roman poetry relates to other discourses, especially poetry and religion, and how these dynamics play out in their reception. Alongside completing her first monograph, Greco-Roman Literature and the Mysteries (forthcoming, Bloomsbury), she is working on a new project on comparisons and connections between Greco-Roman and Chinese Classics, with a particular focus on Latin translations of Chinese poetry and Sino-Hellenic/Roan comparative poetics. She also has an interest in Classical Reception in Renaissance Italy, especially the works of E.S. Piccolomini (Pius II). Her recent work can be found in Classical Quarterly and Bloomsbury Academic. From 2022–2025, she was a Lecturer in Classics (Jesus College, Regent’s Park College) and Instructor in Ancient Languages (Faculty of Classics). She is the 2025–6 Rome Prize Fellow in Ancient Studies at the American Academy in Rome.
