The true heart of economics
11th November 2020: 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm GMT
What should economists study? Common answers include markets, money, scarcity, productivity, prosperity, distribution, and statistics. All of those are relevant, but Edward Hadas will propose a more radical starting point: the Great Exchange of gifts: of human labour to the world and of consumption goods and services from the world that labour has humanised.
Edward Hadas is a Research Fellow at Blackfriars Hall, Oxford. His book Counsels of Imperfections: Thinking Through Catholic Social Teaching will be published in the autumn by Catholic University of America Press. He is also a financial journalist who writes regularly for Reuters Breakingviews.
The event is free and open to all.
