Comings and Goings

7th November 2023

Blackfriars Hall welcomes this year 35 new matriculated students plus four visiting students.

As has become our practice in recent years, we lay on an introductory week for new students at the Hall, called ‘Induction Week’. It takes place just before the official start of the academic year.

The centrepiece of the week was our annual Academic Mass, which gathered together the Hall and Studium communities (friars, students, teachers, and staff). This was followed by a reception so that people could get to know each other better.

We also offered lunches for all our new students throughout the week. As in other years, the Hall will have during the term Formal Halls and Informal Seminars (with pizza & wine/refreshments). This term the Informal Seminars will be given by Hall Fellows: Dr Hugo Slim, Dr Maria Power, Dr Briege Rafferty, and Rev Dr Richard Conrad OP.

Graduations

Last week we celebrated the achievements of Blackfriars’ latest graduates, who donned cap and gown for the traditional ceremony at the Sheldonian Theatre, followed by drinks back at the Hall. Congratulations to all of them!
