Conference on Synodality at Blackfriars

Georgetown University (USA), Blackfriars Hall and Campion Hall (Oxford) are convening a conference in the Aula at Blackfriars on 16 December 1pm-6pm, which will reflect on the recent Synod on Synodality and its deeper lessons for the Church and the world.
There will be 2 panel discussions:
1. The Experience of the Synod on Synodality
What has the Synod accomplished? How has the process of the Synod – its preparations, methodology, and evolution – shaped its overall contributions to the life of the Church? What lessons learned from the experience are critical for the Church and the wider culture?Â
The panellists are:
- Tricia Bruce, Maryville College;
- Kim Daniels, Georgetown University;
- Birgit Weiler, Universidad Antonio Ruiz de Montoya;
- Anna Rowlands, Durham University.
- Austen Ivereigh (moderator)
2. The Synod’s Historical and Theological Significance
What is the historical significance of the Synod? How does it relate to other aspects of Francis’s pontificate? How can theological reflection illuminate the significance of Synod for our understanding of the Church, its internal dynamics, and its relationship with the world?
Expected panelists (tbc):
- Maria Clara Bingemer, Pontifical Catholic University, Rio de Janeiro;
- Tomas Halik, Charles University, Prague;
- Carmody Grey, Durham University
- Thomas Banchoff, Georgetown University (moderator)

3. Keynote speech by Cardinal Timothy Radcliffe OP
Timothy Radcliffe is a member of Blackfriars, Oxford; former Master of the Order of Preachers; and appointed Cardinal by Pope Francis.
There is no charge for this event. However, we do have limited numbers owing to the size of the Aula.
