Former Cabinet Minister Gives Newman Lecture

9th May 2019

On Wednesday 8th May, The Rt Hon Ruth Kelly delivered the 2019 Newman Lecture, ‘Creating change: reflections on government, education and faith’. This annual lecture is offered by the three Catholic Permanent Private Halls of the University, Blackfriars, Campion and St Benet’s Halls.

Ms Kelly is Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, and was formerly the Member of Parliament for Bolton West, holding  a number of ministerial and Cabinet positions, including the post of Secretary of State at three government departments:  Transport; Communities and Local Government; and Education.

She spoke in a thought-provoking presentation about how changes in education  can be sustained, and gave examples from her work.  The Chancellor of the University,  Lord Patten of Barnes, chaired a lively session of Questions-and-Answers. A reception followed at Blackfriars.
