Dr Reuben Hoetmer
Junior Research Fellow
Dr Reuben Hoetmer is a Junior Research Fellow at Blackfriars Hall, Oxford. He completed his DPhil in Theology and Religion in 2025.
His research interests lie at the intersections of theology, philosophy, and culture. His doctoral dissertation developed Augustinian contributions to sport studies, drawing on Augustine’s proto-phenomenology of desire to engage sport across ethics, political philosophy, hermeneutics, critical studies, existentialism, and aesthetics.
Reuben is currently completing a monograph for Routledge, Augustine, Desire, and the Philosophy of Sport, which extends his doctoral research.
