Dr Roger Nutt
Visiting Research Scholar
Dr Roger Nutt is a Visiting Research Fellow at Blackfriars. He serves as Provost, Professor of Theology, Editor-in-Chief of Sapientia Press of Ave Maria University, and co-director of the Aquinas Center for Theological Renewal at AMU. He holds the degrees of S.T.B, S.T.L., and S.T.D. from the Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome, Italy and a Master’s in Theology and Christian Ministry from Franciscan University. He is also a professional member of The Academy of Catholic Theology.
Dr Nutt’s research and teaching focuses on Christology and Sacramental Theology, with an emphasis on St. Thomas Aquinas. These interests are reflected in the books he has authored: Thomas Aquinas’ ‘De Unione Verbi Incarnati’ (Peeters Publishers, 2015); General Principles of Sacramental Theology (The Catholic University of America Press, 2017); and To Die is Gain: A Theological (re-)Introduction to the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick for Clergy, Laity, Caregivers, and Everyone Else (Emmaus Academic, 2022).
His articles and book chapters have appeared in many publications such as Nova et Vetera, Gregorianum, Louvain Studies, The Thomist, Harvard Theological Review, Angelicum, New Blackfriars, Antiphon: A Journal of Liturgical Renewal, Oxford Handbook of the Reception of Aquinas, T&T Clark Handbook of Biblical Thomism. Dr Nutt had co-edited numerous volumes, including: Thomas Aquinas and the Eucharist (2025);Thomas Aquinas as Spiritual Teacher (2023); Hope and Death: Christian Responses (Emmaus Academic, 2022); Thomas Aquinas and the Crisis of Christology (Sapientia Press of Ave Maria University, 2021); Aquinas the Biblical Theologian (Emmaus Academic, 2021); Thomas Aquinas and the Greek Fathers (Sapientia Press of Ave Maria University, 2019); and Thomism and Predestination: Principles and Disputations (Sapientia Press of Ave Maria University, 2016).
