Prof Gerald P. Boersma

Gerald P. Boersma is Professor of Theology and Chair of the Theology Department at Ave Maria University. A Catholic systematic theologian, his scholarship focuses especially on the thought of St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas. He is the author of Augustine’s Early Theology of Image (Oxford University Press, 2016) and Affective Knowledge in Thomas Aquinas (Cambridge University Press, 2026). In addition, he has published numerous articles and book chapters in theology, philosophy, and literary criticism. Prof. Boersma has held fellowships at Villanova University, the University of Tübingen (where he is currently a Humboldt Fellow), and the University of Oxford. He serves as Director of the Academy of Catholic Scholars and Artists (ACSA). The Academy is an honorary society representing America’s preeminent Catholic intellectuals and artisans. A sought-after speaker, Prof Boersma frequently offers talks to retreats, parish events, student gatherings, and academic conferences.
