
Prof Carlos Espaliú Berdud
Research Fellow, Associate Member, Las Casas Institute
Professor Carlos Espaliú Berdud joined Blackfriars Hall as a Research Fellow and an Associate Member of the Las Casas Institute in 2024. During the past year, Carlos gave a talk entitled ‘Civitas versus Totus Orbis: On the possibility of an international “society” or “community” in a broken world’. He also organised a series of workshops on ‘The European challenge: Defending human rights in the digital age’.
Professor Espaliú Berdud obtained his full professorship in Spain. Previously, he was a legal officer at the International Court of Justice, specialising in international and European law. His main research interests focus on the use of force in international law, the peaceful settlement of international disputes and European Union citizenship. In recent years, he has been working on the fight against disinformation and freedom of expression and information – the fruits of which will contribute to the work of Las Casas Institute for Social Justice.
