Very Rev Dominic White OP

Prior

Fr Dominic was born in Guildford. He studied Classics at Pembroke College, Cambridge at Imperial College London (PhD), while being organist and choir director of St Dominic’s Priory, London (the Rosary Shrine), through which he met the Dominicans. After studies at Blackfriars, he was ordained deacon and then priest at St Dominic’s, London. During this time of parish ministry he also worked with Catholic and other artists to create the multimedia dance work Cosmos.

Subsequently Fr Dominic was a university and arts chaplain in Newcastle, then bursar in Cambridge, while being Acting Director of Research at the Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology, and contributing to teaching and research in the Cambridge University Divinity Faculty. As a theologian he is interested in the arts as a place of spiritual beauty and search for wisdom in contemporary society; in spirituality and creation; and liturgical anthropology as means for reconciling liturgical tensions. Fr Dominic is the author of The Lost Knowledge of Christ: Christian Cosmology, Contemporary Spiritualities and the Arts (Liturgical Press, 2015), and How Do I Look? Theology in the Age of the Selfie (SCM, 2020). Recently appointed a fellow of Blackfriars Hall, he is looking forward to building up a new centre at the Hall for theology and the arts.

Fr Dominic is a pianist, organist and composer, and co-founder of the Friends of Sophia group.
