Blackfriars Hall > Cleaning Schedules

Cleaning Schedules

Regular cleaning helps ensure that all Blackfriars Hall residences remain pleasant, hygienic, and safe for everyone. The cleaning schedule for our buildings is as follows:

16–17 St John Street

  • 16 St John Street: Common areas, including kitchens, showers, corridors, and toilets, are cleaned every Tuesday and Thursday.  Rubbish in communal bins is taken out on these days.  Students are responsible for cleaning your own bedroom and disposing of any rubbish from your room to the communal waste area located behind the rear garden wall of the house.
  • 17 St John Street: Common areas, including kitchens, showers, corridors, toilets, and the common room, are cleaned every Wednesday and Friday. Students are responsible for cleaning your own bedroom and disposing of any rubbish from your room to the communal waste area located behind the rear garden wall of the house.

33 St Giles

  • Common areas are cleaned every Monday and Thursday.
  • Students with en-suite rooms are asked to provide access on Thursdays so that en-suite facilities can be cleaned.
  • Students are responsible for cleaning the other parts of your bedroom and disposing of any rubbish from your room.

If you have any questions about cleaning arrangements or access requirements, please contact the Bursary team.

Waste collection schedule from external bin areas

  • In the 16-17 St John St bin areas behind the houses, which are managed by St John’s College, waste is collected by Oxford Direct Services, in line with the city’s waste regulations. ODS collections occur Tuesday to Friday, between 6am and 4:30pm.
  • In 33 St Giles, Select Environmental visits to collect Blackfriars’ dedicated bins on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Hygiene bins

  • Hygiene bins are emptied monthly by a specialist external contractor, who is escorted through the premises by the Hall Bursary team to ensure security.  We will give students notice by email of when hygiene bin emptying is going to be taking place.

For details of how we manage other forms of waste, please see our Waste Management Plan.
