Blackfriars > Policies and Codes of Practice > Fire Safety Policy

Fire Safety Policy

Every student, tutor and staff member must familiarise himself/herself with

  • The Fire Drill.
  • Escape routes of the buildings which he/she uses.

Copies of the Fire Drill and plans of the escape routes on the main site are included in the starter pack for new students and are posted in the JCR.

It is an offence to misuse a fire extinguisher, a smoke detector, fire alarm, or any fire equipment, to obstruct a fire escape, tamper with break glass boxes, or to behave recklessly with respect to fire.

It is an offence to prop open fire doors or to obstruct corridors and fire exits.

Any malfunctioning alarms and emergency lights or damage to fire equipment in the main building must be reported to the Hall and Studium Secretary or one of the Moderators.

Smoking and the use of candles, fairy-lights, incense, joss sticks or naked flames in any room of the Hall or Studium are strictly prohibited.

It is an offence to store flammable or explosive substances in any building used by the Hall or Studium.

It is an offence to remove fire extinguishers from their brackets except in case of fire.

Offences which in any way compromise the fire safety of the building will be reported to the Senior Dean and may be punished severely.
