From 1 September 2025, Blackfriars’ accommodation charges increased by 2.3%. Historically, Blackfriars has sought to align its increases in accommodation charges with inflation.
Accommodation charges applicable to our standard contract period in 2025-26:

The standard graduate license period for Blackfriars accommodation normally runs grom the last Monday of September to the end of June of the following year. The standard licence period for AY 2025/26 is from Monday 29 September 2025 until Saturday 27 June 2026. Detailed license terms will be provided upon booking the specific room.
Applicants become liable to pay the accommodation charge for your licence for the year as soon as you sign your accommodation acceptance form with us. What is included in my accommodation licence charge?
Blackfriars accommodation charges include the following services:
- All utilities and wi-fi
- Furnished accommodation, including fully equipped kitchens for self-catering
- Laundry facilities at no extra charge
- Cleaning of common areas and gardening services
- Access to welfare support through our Junior Deans, welfare team, and 24 hour security arrangements
Our charge does not cover:
- Contents insurance for your belongings; please see our guidance on how to obtain your own insurance
- Bedding, which can be borrowed for a small charge, purchased through us, or you can bring your own;
- Blackfriars students can choose to register to take meals in the dining hall of a nearby college. We will advise you of details and costs for this service separately – please note that this scheme is not included in your accommodation charge.
When to pay your fees
We will email you with an offer of accommodation. Once you receive this and sign your agreement form, we will send you an accommodation invoice. You can accept your contract and pay your fees at the same time, if you prefer. You can email us in the Blackfriars Bursary (bursary@bfriars.ox.ac.uk) and check your Blackfriars account balance at any time.
Accommodation invoices are due by Friday of 1st Week of your first term of residence for the whole period of your stay with us. If you need to discuss your financial circumstances or request to pay in instalments, please write to us at bursary@bfriars.ox.ac.uk.
How to pay your fees
Blackfriars accepts payments through Flywire, a third-party international money transfer platform that also facilitates card payments, with the aim of making payments easier for our students. Paying your deposit
In order to confirm your room allocation, we will ask you to make a deposit payment of £250 when you accept your accommodation contract. Deposits should be paid within 14 days of our offer. Deposits paid to Blackfriars are protected and insured under the Deposit Protection Scheme, and returned to you at the end of your accommodation agreement period (https://www.depositprotection.com/tenants/starting-a-tenancy/what-is-deposit-protection). Please note that your deposit will not be returned if you choose not to take up an offer of accommodation that you previously accepted.
