Human Rights Education
A commitment to human rights and human duties is a core commitment in Catholic Social Teaching. Human rights education is essential to equip each new generation of young people with the knowledge and skills to stand up for human rights and live out their human duties in society.
Las Casas is the Oxford base for the Oxford Consortium for Human Rights – a network of 35 universities and community colleges across the United States. Founded in 2012, the Oxford Consortium delivers three student conferences in Oxford every year for 150 students on different aspects of human rights activism, all curated and led by the team at Las Casas. The Oxford Consortium has an alumni of 1600 people and in 2025 was awarded a human rights award by the State Senate in Connecticut where the headquarters of the Consortium are based.
In 2026, Las Casas and the Oxford Consortium began working with  British, American and Afghan schools in a new initiative called High Schools for Human Rights that focuses on gender justice.
