Thomistic Institute Chapters
The Thomistic Institute, based in Washington, DC, exists to promote Catholic truth in the contemporary world by strengthening the intellectual formation of Christians at universities, in the Church, and in the wider public square.
The thought of St Thomas Aquinas, the Universal Doctor of the Church, is its touchstone. Events are free and open to the public.
UK Chapters
Following great success in the USA, the Thomistic Institute established Chapters in London and in Oxford in December 2017, as a partnership between the Dominican friars of the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, DC, and the English Province of the Order of Preachers with its Aquinas Institute.
As a rule, two talks are held in Oxford, and two in London, each term.
Speakers have included Prof Eleonore Stump, Patron of the Aquinas Institute, Fr Richard Conrad, its Director, and Dr Daniel De Haan, one of its members.
Talks are organised by a local committee of Dominicans and young lay people.
Past themes have included:
- The ‘Atheism’ of Christianity
- The Soul After Neuroscience
- Suffering and Flourishing
