Conflict and Peacebuilding
Catholic Social Teaching promotes non-violence, dialogue, and peacebuilding as the route to justice and peace, with just war teaching governing armed conflict when it does take place.
Conflict is a significant driver of poverty, suffering and injustice in a world in which the number of armed conflicts is rising and the volume of defense spending is increasing. Las Casas researches the causes of conflict and the practice of peacebuilding in three main research streams.
Faith-based Peacebuilding
Faith-based Peacebuilding explores the dynamics of conflict and peace within communities and supports parish-based peacebuilding in Northern Ireland by ecumenical organizations in the Protestant and Catholic churches.
Women Religious Peacebuilding
Women Religious Peacebuilding examines the historical role of Catholic nuns and sisters in conflict and post-conflict situations in Northern Ireland and around the world.
Humanitarian Aid
Humanitarian Aid researches and promotes new approaches to humanitarian aid in partnership with Caritas and Red Cross agencies.
