Medical Treatment
What to do if you need Medical Treatment
Emergencies
If any person is in serious, immediate danger or there is a crime in progress you should call ‘999’.
You should try to remain calm and follow the instructions given by the operator.
If you need medical help quickly, but it’s not a 999 emergency, call ‘111‘ The NHS 111 service is staffed by a team of fully trained advisers, supported by experienced nurses and paramedics. They will ask you questions to assess your symptoms, then give you the healthcare advice you need or direct you straightaway to the local service that can help you best.
If NHS 111 advisers think you need an ambulance, they will immediately arrange for one to be sent to you.
Alternatively, you can go the Emergency Department (also called Accident and Emergency or A&E) at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington: 01865 220208 / 01865 220209 .
Non-emergencies
For illnesses that are not life-threatening you should first contact your GP surgery. The University and its Colleges and Halls strongly recommend that you choose to register with a “College Doctor”.
